Not knowing quite what to expect, the day at Princess Alice Hospice back in 2008 was brilliant.
I was there to shoot an editorial feature at the ‘Look Good Feel Good Day’ at the Day Hospice. These days are essentially pampering days where the ladies get a hair cut, manicure and have their make up done. It really was a fun day with lots of laughs, my assistant and I had such a good time we volunteered our services and have been shooting various events for the hospice ever since - Look Good Feel Good Days with Trinny and Susannah, Women of Our Time Luncheons with Pru Leith, Angela Rippon, Dame Stella Rimington, Virginia McKenna and Elaine Paige to name a few.
After we’d been to a few Look Good Feel Good Days we thought it would be a nice idea to give the ladies an opportunity to have their portraits taken. What a riot that turned out to be, the ladies were an absolute hoot and then we then added The Gentlemen's Days. It turns out, the men are just as enthusiastic as the ladies when it comes to posing !
Deidre, a patient who we photographed on the very first portrait day, sums up the feeling that the Day Hospice gives you perfectly. ‘I remember my first visit. I walked through the Day Hospice and saw everyone having fun and thought I want to be part of that.’
