My experience at Princess Alice Hospice was truly remarkable. Initially uncertain of what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant atmosphere at the 'Look Good Feel Good Day' I was there to shoot for an editorial feature in 2008. It turned out to be a day filled with pampering and laughter.
Witnessing the joy and camaraderie among the attendees and the staff, I had no hesitation in offering my services as a volunteer photographer. Over the years, I had the privilege of capturing countless moments at various events, from pampering days to fund raising Women of Our Time Luncheons with an array of amazing guest speakers - Pru Leith, Angela Rippon, Dame Stella Rimington, Virginia McKenna, Dame Mary Berry, Elaine Paige and Angelica Bell to name a few.
The inclusion of 'Gentlemen's Days' further enriched the experience, highlighting the equal enthusiasm and enjoyment among both men and women when it came to posing for portraits. The laughter and camaraderie that filled those days made them truly unforgettable.
Deidre's sentiment perfectly encapsulates the essence of the hospice, where every individual is welcomed with open arms and the opportunity to experience moments of joy and connection.
‘I remember my first visit. I walked through the Day Hospice and saw everyone having fun and thought I want to be part of that.’
Being part of Princess Alice Hospice has been an immense privilege. Throughout my time there, I've had the honour of meeting remarkable individuals and forming lasting friendships. The sense of community and warmth within the establishment has made it an unforgettable experience.
