SCRUBS FOR EPSOM & ST. HELIER
Zoe Lorenz
Zoe's Mum - Zoe had a very full life before lockdown, enjoying robotics club, ballet, hockey, ukulele etc. She became quite withdrawn when she wasn't able to do these things. My mum is a keen amateur seamstress and had just started making scrubs for the NHS, so she suggested to Zoe that she might like to have a go. Zoe was super keen and made a pair of scrubs out of an old duvet cover for my friend who is a consultant surgeon.
We discovered the Epsom and St Helier scrub group and Zoe went on to make another 5 sets of scrubs. She moved on to making face masks and advertised to the neighbours and local friends and collected charity donations for the face masks. She raised £400 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. I hadn't done any sewing for about 30 years - Zoe had the sewing machine for her birthday a few years ago and my mum taught her how to use it and she's also done a bit of textiles at school. Anyway, I watched Zoe and she taught me a few things and along with watching the ‘Sew Me Something’ YouTube video, I have now made a couple of sets of scrubs too which I really enjoyed making.
