SCRUBS FOR EPSOM & ST. HELIER
Kim Hall
At the end of March, the call went out for scrubs to help the NHS. Wanting to help those on the front line I signed up to ‘For The Love Of Scrubs’ Facebook page and asked if anyone was in the Epsom area. Alex and the rest of the admin team contacted me at the beginning of April and so ‘Scrubs for Epsom & St Helier’ was born. Having never met, we soon agreed on different responsibilities and as I sew regularly, I soon became the 'Scrubber' !
It was a really busy time with over 3.5km of fabric coming through my home, which was cut and distributed to our wonderful makers. They made over 2,500 sets of scrubs and wash bags which were in turn distributed by our transport team to people working on the front line. During the time, my family were really supportive, in fact I only cooked 3 dinners during the whole of lockdown !
It was great to meet the ladies and gents who made scrubs and the numerous doorstep meetings were a life saver during lockdown (as I do like to chat) although one of my neighbours thought I was dealing drugs ! The feedback we received regarding the scrubs was amazing, but it was also so nice to hear from the makers and how it had kept them feeling useful throughout the lockdown period. It was a real team effort and something I am very proud of and will never forget.
